Gorontolo

Gorontalo is one of my favorite areas as it is off the beaten path but with excellent flight access and amenities. The diving is immediately offshore, hence short boat rides. Walls, monster size sponges and schools of fish make for fantastic UW photography. The macro is also good in the shallows. My favorite site is Jinn Caves, which is a fantastic site of multiple vertical walls, caverns and look-through cubby holes. This site, like many other wall dives in Gorontalo, can be initially intimidating due to their spellbinding grandness. Black coral, white fans, gargantuan red sea fans, batfish and thousands of glass fish decorate the undulating walls, slope breaks and caverns. The people of Gorontalo are friendly and forthcoming. Fishing villages are full of happy screaming kids following you on bicycles and parents will invite you in for tea….
